Executive Summary

The site's ranking footprint widened again in September. Clean Sweep now appears on the first page for 712 queries, up 82, and inside the top 20 for 1,161 queries, up 242, counted across every search the site appeared for. That top 20 figure is a 26 percent gain in a single month. The top 3 count came in at 303, against 315 in August and 242 in July. Google's own reporting recorded 108,361 impressions and 281 clicks in September, up 9 percent and 15 percent on August. From this report forward, clicks and impressions are Google's totals for the whole site, which include searches Google does not itemise. They are not like for like with the figures quoted last month. On the whole-site basis August was 245 clicks and 98,986 impressions.

Read across three months the direction is clear. First page: 489 in July, 630 in August, 712 in September. Top 20: 760, then 919, then 1,161. That is roughly 400 new top 20 positions in a single quarter, and the top 20 added more in September than it did in August. Impressions climbed for a third month, from 86,281 in July, and clicks did the same: 177 in July, 245 in August, 281 in September. The biggest single query in the account, "chimney repair" at 8,370 impressions, sits at an average position of 13.6, a few places short of page 1. In the local map pack, our daily rank tracker showed Clean Sweep holding a top three slot on 20 of the 46 priority terms it checks in the Indianapolis core on September 30, with "chimney sweep" in first place.

AI search is where September moved most. Google's own first-party report shows 5,680 impressions inside its AI answers in September. From this report forward we total Google's AI impressions by calendar month, so they are not like for like with the 28 day window quoted last month. On the calendar basis August was 2,820, so September is just over double, and the Vented vs Ventless gas logs guide we published on your behalf accounts for 73 percent of September's total on its own. Microsoft's own reporting shows 88 citations in September. From this report forward we also total Microsoft's figures by calendar month, so they are not like for like with the rolling window quoted last month. On the calendar basis August was 33. The cross-platform snapshot held at 15 citations, the same total as August, now spread across five platforms instead of three: Google AI Mode 9, Google AI Overviews 2, ChatGPT 2, and one each from Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot.

Google's own reporting recorded 108,361 search impressions and 281 clicks for the whole site in September, with impressions up from 98,986 in August and clicks up from 245. Among the searches Google itemises by position, which do not add up to the whole-site totals, 53 percent of clicks came from top 3 positions and 74 percent from the first page. The biggest single impression driver was "chimney repair" at 8,370 impressions, and it sits at an average position of 13.6. That one query is the clearest piece of unconverted demand in the account, and it is the reason the chimney repair pages are first in line for next month's on-page work.

What we are watching

The top 3 count eased to 303 while the wider bands grew.

First page added 82 queries and top 20 added 242, but the top 3 band came in at 303 against 315 in August. It is still 61 above July's 242, so this reads as a pause after a large August gain rather than a slide. The growth this month came in positions 4 to 20, and the next job is moving the strongest of those queries to the top of the page, starting with the chimney repair work in section 08. This is the one number we will report against next month.

A note on how these numbers are counted

We pull from several sources so no single tool tells the whole story. The headline counts above come from Google's own reporting, which covers every search Clean Sweep appeared for. The map pack numbers further down come from our daily rank tracker, which checks a short list of priority terms city by city, and the AI figures come from the platforms themselves and our daily prompt checks. Each number comes from whichever source measures it best, and stays with that source month to month.

Ranking Wins

Queries where Clean Sweep averaged position 10.0 or better in Google's own reporting during September, drawing at least 30 impressions, ranked by how often each one put the site in front of a searcher. The landing page column shows the page that performed best for each query, and several of these queries are served by more than one page. The two largest rows carry heavy impressions with no recorded clicks, so we are not drawing any conclusions from those two rows this month.

Striking Distance

Queries already ranking on page 2 where a small content or link push moves them onto page 1. These are the next wave of winsStriking distance keywords are search terms ranking close to page 1 (positions 11 to 20). They typically take less work to push onto page 1 than starting a brand new keyword from scratch.. This month the list is unusually valuable, because the heaviest query in the entire account is sitting on it.

Where the upside is

The chimney repair head terms are parked on page 2.

"chimney repair" drew 8,370 impressions in September at an average position of 13.6, and "chimney repair near me" drew 4,807 at 13.4. Those two queries alone put Clean Sweep in front of searchers more than 13,000 times without a first-page position to convert it. Add "chimney rebuild," "chimney repairs," "chimney repair services," and "chimney repair contractors" and the page 2 repair cluster accounts for the large majority of the impressions in the table below. Moving those head terms up three or four places is the single largest available gain in this report, which is why the repair pages are first in the queue.

Pillar Pages Driving the Engine

These specific pages are the foundation for everything ranking. Each one carries visibility across many related search terms.

cleansweep317.com

Homepage

2.5 avg position for "chimney cleaner near me" 2.9 avg position for "chimney contractor" 29 clicks from brand search
Still the engine of the site. It carries the broad unmodified service queries and most of the brand search, and it was the best performing page for 18 of the 30 first-page queries listed above. That concentration is also the reason the cluster pages matter: the homepage cannot be the best answer for every repair query at once.

It is already on page 1 for "chimney repair indianapolis indiana" at 4.7 and "chimney and fireplace repair" at 9.5, while the homepage is still the best performing page for the unmodified head terms in section 04. Giving this page the depth to carry those head terms is the first job in next month's queue.

Chimney Liner Replacement Guide

3.2 avg position for "chimney liner replacement" 5.6 avg position for "chimney liner cost" 79 impressions inside Google's AI answers
This page is doing double duty: an average position of 3.2 on the main liner term and a measurable presence inside Google's AI answers. Note that the cost query ranks alongside the service query. That is the pattern we keep seeing, and it is the argument for the next round of cost guides.

Local 3-Pack Performance

Local 3-packWhen someone searches for a local service like "chimney sweep near me," Google shows a special box at the top with a map and three business listings. This is called the local 3-pack or "map pack" and ranking inside it is a major driver of calls. placements from our daily rank tracker, which checks the same 46 priority service terms in each city. This is the tracked city by city view, a separate measurement from the site-wide counts in the headline. On September 30 Clean Sweep held a map pack slot on 20 of the 46 terms in the Indianapolis core on desktop, 7 of them in first place, and "chimney sweep" moved up to the first slot from the second slot shown in last month's report. The mobile check for the Indianapolis core showed 11 of 46 on the same day.

How to read this month's local numbers

The tracked list was rebuilt during September so that every city now carries the same 46 terms. That makes the cities comparable with each other from here on, and it means this month's tables are a starting position: they are not row for row comparable with the longer list in last month's report. Mobile tracking for the suburbs began in mid September and will be reported once it has a full month behind it.

Cited 15 times across the major AI search platformsIncludes Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, and Grok. Being "cited" means Clean Sweep's webpage is shown as one of the sources the AI is quoting from when it builds its answer., and 88 times in Microsoft's own count.

We measure AI visibility through several independent lenses so that no single source is telling the whole story. The September cross-platform snapshot shows 15 citations: Google AI Mode leads with 9, Google AI Overviews holds 2, ChatGPT contributes 2, and Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot each add 1. The total matches August, and it is now spread across five platforms rather than three. Microsoft's own reporting shows 88 citations in September across Microsoft Copilot and Bing Chat, against 33 in August on the same calendar month basis. And Google's own first-party report shows 5,680 impressions inside AI Overviews and AI Mode, just over double August's 2,820.

View A · Where the 15 citations came from

The snapshot breaks the 15 citations down by platform. Google AI Mode, Google's conversational search experience, is where Clean Sweep earns the most citations of any single platform. What changed this month is the spread: Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot, which did not appear in last month's snapshot, now each contribute a citation.

What this sets up

ChatGPT now reaches for Clean Sweep on 7 of every 10 Indianapolis prompts we check daily.

On our daily prompt checks, ChatGPT's link presence and its mention presence both reached 70 percent in September, each up from 50 percent in August. When ChatGPT answers the Indianapolis chimney questions we track, it now names Clean Sweep and links to the site seven times in ten. In Google's AI Overviews the brand was named in about one in six of the tracked answers, without a link yet. Crown repair, masonry repair, and chimney leak repair are the three service lines where AI assistants are still answering Indianapolis homeowners without Clean Sweep in the answer, and they are the next three guides we want to build.

Microsoft's reporting also names the searches behind those citations, and the largest single one is the brand name itself, "clean sweep 317." The Vented vs Ventless Gas Logs guide we published on your behalf holds 4,164 AI impressions, 73 percent of Clean Sweep's entire exposure inside Google's AI answers.

One article is out-performing the rest of the website combined inside Google's AI answers. Google's regular search reporting shows the same page drawing 4,113 impressions across 122 different queries in September, at an average position of 3.4. The strategic conclusion is unchanged and better evidenced each month. Build the same depth on the masonry, leak, and crown topics the owner wants to grow, and aim for the same curve.

Note on the data: Google's Generative AI features report currently surfaces impression data only, not clicks. This is because AI-generated answers often satisfy the query in place without the user needing to visit the source. Treat these numbers as authority and exposure indicators rather than direct-traffic drivers.

08

Next Month Focus

Three months of growth in the same direction. The job now is narrower than it was in the spring: the site is appearing in far more places, and the work is to convert the heaviest of those places into top-of-page positions. Two pieces of work do most of that.

  • 01

Push the chimney repair head terms onto page 1

The repair head terms are the biggest unconverted demand in the account: "chimney repair" at 8,370 impressions and "chimney repair near me" at 4,807, both averaging around position 13. The plan is a depth pass on the chimney repair hub, internal links into it from the homepage and the fireplace pages, and a repair section on the pages currently absorbing that intent. This is also the work aimed at the top 3 count we are watching.

  • 02

    Build the next cost guides

The Vented vs Ventless result keeps compounding, and the liner page is repeating it on a smaller scale with "chimney liner cost" ranking alongside the service term. We will apply that model to crown repair, masonry repair, and chimney leak repair, the three lines where AI assistants are answering local homeowners without Clean Sweep in the answer, and the lines the owner asked us to grow.
