September's rankings settled back from August's peak to roughly where July stood, with one difference that matters for what comes next. Gateway finished the month in the top 3 on Google for 26 search queries, on the first page for 75, and inside the first two pages for 214, counted across every query the site appeared for. August was an unusually strong month at 38, 113 and 263. Against July, the first page count is level (76 then, 75 now), the top 20 count is 33 higher (181 then), and the top 3 count is lower (34 then), which makes it the tier we most want back.
The difference is the block sitting just off page one. 139 queries rank in positions 11 to 20, up from 105 in July (August's peak was 150), and of the searches Google itemises for Gateway they carry 58 percent of the impressions. The 75 first page queries carry about 6 percent. Put plainly, about ten times as much of Gateway's search visibility sits on page two as on page one, led by "roll off dumpster" (1,057 impressions at an average position of 15.0) and "dumpster rental" (849 at 16.7). That is real demand within reach, and moving it is what this report and the October plan are built around.
Traffic reflects where the rankings sit. Clicks were 21 in September, half of August's 42 and below July's 33. From this report forward, clicks and impressions are Google's totals for the whole site, which include searches Google does not itemise. They are not like for like with the figures quoted last month. On the whole-site basis August was 42 clicks and 13,073 impressions. The base is small enough that a handful of searches moves the total, and the reason it is small is visible in the same data: the page two searches that carry most of the visibility produced almost none of the clicks. Impressions were 9,479, down 27 percent from August's 13,073 and below July's 14,414, in a month when the same dip showed up across unrelated sites we track, concentrated in positions beyond page one. We are reviewing the daily data before drawing a conclusion.
On the short list of priority terms we check daily in each market, the Gateway name holds position 1 and "same day dumpster rental" sits on page one in Greece (position 6) and Brockport (position 8) at month end. In AI search, Google's AI answers showed Gateway 223 times in September. From this report forward we total Google's AI figures by calendar month, so they are not like for like with the 28 day window quoted last month. On the calendar basis August was 554. The daily count recovered toward August's level in early October, and the detail is in the AI section below.
"Dumpster rental" and "rent a dumpster" both averaged position 16.7 in September, each slightly lower than in August, and "same day dumpster rental" slipped from page one to 10.4, four tenths of a position outside it. All three still rank higher than they did in July, and "roll off dumpster" held at 15.0. What we know: for "dumpster rental" and "rent a dumpster", the Gateway page Google showed most in September was the Brockport service area page, not the homepage. In August, the month "dumpster rental" ranked best, that leading page was the homepage. What we are doing: tightening the homepage and the internal links that point to it so Google has one clear page to rank for the broad rental searches, then checking the same queries again at the end of October.
We pull from several sources so no single tool tells the whole story. The headline counts above come from Google's own reporting, which covers every search Gateway appeared for, and clicks and impressions are Google's totals for the whole site, which include searches Google does not itemise. The market by market and map pack readings further down come from our daily rank tracker, which checks a short list of priority terms, so they are a separate view and not a restatement of the headline counts. AI figures come from the platforms themselves, and each number stays with its source month to month.
Gateway ranks on the first page for 75 queries, level with July. This is the short section of the report this month, and we would rather say why than pad it: the first page set is led by the Gateway name, and the rest are small, specific searches that carry a few impressions each. Together the 75 carry about 6 percent of the impressions on the searches Google itemises. A selection is below, and the landing page column shows the page Google ranked best for each search.
| Query | Landing page | Avg Position | Impressions |
|---|---|---|---|
| gateway dumpsters | / | 2.9 | 209 |
| gateway dumpster | / | 2.7 | 17 |
| concrete dumpster near me | /about-us/ | 10.0 | 6 |
People who already know Gateway find it. The searches from people who do not know Gateway yet, the ones that bring new customers, are ranking, but on page two. The nearest of them is "same day dumpster rental" at an average position of 10.4 on 150 impressions, four tenths of a position from joining this table. The next section is where the volume is.
This is the centre of the report. 139 queries rank on page two, up from 105 in July, and they carry 58 percent of the impressions on the searches Google itemises. These are the next wave of winsStriking-distance keywords are search terms ranking close to page 1 (positions 11 to 20). They typically take less work to push onto page 1 than starting a brand new keyword from scratch., and the list is stacked with the broad commercial searches in the category. The 16 largest are below, with the page Google ranked best for each.

"Roll off dumpster," "dumpster rental" and "rent a dumpster" account for 54 percent of the impressions in this band, 2,632 between them, and all three sit between positions 15.0 and 16.7. "Roll off dumpster" is the steadiest of them: it has held at or near 15.0 for two months running. Further up the band, "same day dumpster rental" (10.4), "roll off dumpster near me" (11.8), "cheap dumpster rental" (13.6) and "dumpster rental near me" (13.7) are each within four positions of page one. "Dumpster rental henrietta ny" is a gain worth naming: it moved up from page three to 17.7 this month.
Broad searches such as "dumpster rental," "rent a dumpster" and "one day dumpster rental" are being answered by the Brockport page, and "dumpster service" by the Irondequoit page, while the homepage leads on six and the roll off rental page on two. Town pages are built to win town searches. When they are also carrying the broad category searches, it is a sign that the site's strength on those searches is spread across several pages. Pointing that strength at the homepage and the roll off rental page is the most direct route to page one for this list, and it is the first priority for October.
The specific pages carrying Gateway's search visibility in September. The number of ranking queriesA "ranking query" is a unique search term that this specific page showed up for on Google during the reporting month. One page often ranks for many related searches at once. next to each page is how many different Google searches that page appeared for in the month.
The yard waste dumpster guide for fall cleanup went live on September 29, and refreshed copy went live on the 15 yard and 20 yard rental pages during the month. The guide was live for two days of the reporting period, so it does not register in September's numbers; October is the first month it can earn rankings. Three further posts are written and waiting in the queue.
This section is a different view from the headline counts. Our daily rank tracker checks a short list of 33 priority terms market by market, and the readings below are the position on September 30. It also reads the local 3-packWhen someone searches for a local service like "dumpster rental near me," Google shows a special box at the top with a map and three business listings. This is called the local 3-pack or "map pack" and ranking inside it is a major driver of calls.. We are keeping this section short this month and only as firm as the readings behind it.
| Keyword | Market checked | Map Pack Position |
|---|---|---|
| roofing dumpster | Brockport | 2 |
| 20 yard dumpster | Brockport | 3 |
| residential dumpster rental | Brockport | 3 |
Map pack readings came back from one of our eight market and device checks at month end, Brockport on desktop, so the table above is a partial view. It is also a single reading on September 30, where last month's report counted positions held at any point in the month, so the two are not like for like. On the organic side of the tracked list, the Gateway name holds position 1 in both Brockport and Greece on desktop and is the only tracked term in the top 3. "Same day dumpster rental" is the strongest commercial term, at position 6 in Greece and position 8 in Brockport on desktop; Google's own average for that search across every market and device is 10.4, which is why it also appears in Striking Distance above. This month's local readings come from the Brockport and Greece desktop checks, the two markets with a full month of readings behind them.
Google AI visibility declined in September but recovered toward August's daily level in early October. The decline began before Google's late September spam update. We are reviewing nonbranded search visibility and targeted improvements; the data does not establish a spam-update impact.
This view counts the share of tracked questions where Gateway appears, which is a different measure from the daily check counts shown last month, so the two should not be compared directly.
We would rather show this plainly than lead with the one view that looks best. Google's AI answers, the largest of the four views for Gateway, were back near August's daily level by the first week of October. The other three will be read again at the end of October. The work that feeds them is the same work that feeds the rankings above: pages that answer a specific question well, which is what the yard waste guide published on your behalf on September 29 and the queued seasonal posts are written to do.
September's ranking counts settled back to July's level, but the block sitting just off page one is a third larger than it was then: 139 queries carrying 58 percent of the impressions on the searches Google itemises. October is about moving the largest of those searches forward, starting with the three that carry more than half of that visibility.
"Dumpster rental" (849 impressions at 16.7) and "rent a dumpster" (726 at 16.7) are currently led by the Brockport service area page. We will add internal links from the service area pages up to the homepage using the wording people search with, and tighten the homepage copy around those terms, so Google has one page to rank.
The largest search on the site, 1,057 impressions at 15.0, and the steadiest: it has held at or near 15.0 for two months running. We will strengthen the roll off rental page that leads for it and link to it from the size pages refreshed in September.
The yard waste guide went live September 29 and three more posts are written and queued.
